Mangaluru, Sep 11: 'Re-captivating Requisites for Professional Social Work', a day-long workshop organised by Department of Post Graduate Studies & Research in Social Work, Mangalore University with collaboration of Lions Club Mangalore on September 7. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together social work students of affiliated colleges under Mangalore University and provide orientation on the practices of social work, regarding the career opportunities and managing the challenges in this field.
The programme was inaugurated by Gracy Gonsalves, deputy director of Women and Child Welfare department, Udupi. M Shekhar Pujary, president, Lions Club, Mangaluru and Dr Raghavendra Holla, manager, SEZ Ltd, Mangalur participated as chief guests.
Prof P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya, honourable vice chancellor, Mangalore University, presided over the workshop. In his presidential address he highlighted the importance of social work in the present scenario and motivated the students to create opportunities and to be responsible towards the society at large.
Prof Paul G Aquinas, chairman of department of Post Graduate Studies & Research in Social Work, Mangalore University, welcomed the gathering and Dr Yashaswini B, assistant professor of the department introduced the concept of the workshop. After the inaugural function, different sessions were held by specialized resource persons. The valedictory programme was presided by Prof A M Khan, registrar, and Mangalore University. Prof Suma Rai, principal, M V Shetty College of Social Work, Mangaluru, was chief guest. Social work students from various affiliated colleges were benefited by the workshop. Nishmitha, faculty of the department anchored the programme.
