Panaji: Do Not Treat Goa as Railway Corridor - Shantaram Naik

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Jul 9: Shantaram Naik, M.P., appealed to the Railway Minister Mamta Bannerjee not to treat Goa as a corridor of Railways and give Goa its due share in the railway network.

Naik who was participating in the debate on railway budget on Wednesday in the Rajya Sabha has said that when Konkan Railway was being constructed there was a section of people who felt that Goa may just become a corridor, and therefore, Naik said it should not be allowed to happen.

Making a few demands Naik has pleaded for a train from Goa to Tirupati as also a train from Goa to Vailankini to facilitate Goans as also tourists to visit these places.

Naik also requested the Minister to resume the train from Vasco-Da-Gama to Mumbai via Belgaum and Pune.

This is one of the oldest route on which trains were plying, however, after the broad gage of Konlan Railway route, trains plying from Vasco-da-Gama to Mumbai via said old route have been cancelled. It is, therefore, requested that a regular trains on this route should be introduced, Naik said.

Making a demand for daily direct train to Delhi via Baroda, Naik said at present, there is one train, namely, Goa-Nizamuddin Express, daily, from Vasco Da-Gama (Goa) to Nizamuddin but it takes 48 hours as it goes via Pune-Bhopal route. The second train for Goa-New Delhi journey is Mangala xpress which runs daily between Ernakulam and Nizamuddin which passes through Goa but, the same takes 36 hours as it takes Panvel-Bhopal route.

The only other train which take shortest route namely, Panvel-Baroda route, is Trivandrum-Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express, which also, passes through Goa, which takes merely 26 hours but, is available, only for three days in a week. You will agree that the train fare of Rajdhani is not affordable for common travelers.

The goa express should run daily via baroda route. It will take merely 32 hours. i have suggested this many times to railways and to konkan railway alas no mechanism of noting useful suggestions. the panvel-barida route is shortest route. from both ends goa express could strat at 22-00 P.m to reach at 6-00 thus saving day journey, the present yaswantpur hazart nizamudin express and mysore swarnajayanti express be merged to run adaily nizamuddin- mysore swarnajayanti express via pune hubli. rather than each minister starting a weekly expresss train(Sampark kranti, garibrath, yuva/duranto) it is wiser that good management prevails and the places like mysore/ goa etc are connected by daily superfast trains to delhi.

This will also save chaos in timetable and will go a long way in operational efficiency. mamata is criticizing lallu but going by the same route trhaqt of cheap popularity and sporadic trains and chaos in schedules which will eventually destroy the railway network. WE need to replace ac 3 tier coaches throught the country by garibrath ac 3 tier coaches the chaircars by double decker chair cars and reduce ac 3tier/chair car rates by 30% rather than starting intercity ac trains(weekly/biweekly etc) and garibraths for some speciifc cities.

Target so that in entire india imp daily trains like deccan queen, golden temple mail etc are improved. avoid sporadic trains. we have weekend madgaon/mumbai express some 3 days karwar exp cat we have one single daily mumbai karwar siperfast train easier for operation and easier for eole. may be only during extra rush an additional weekend can learn? neatness in schedules is very important. We need atleast daily pune- wasco train via belgaum route and intercity train between vasco-belgaum. prof anil pedgaonkar

Hon''ble Mr. Naik should recall the agitation of Goa people when the konkan railway was constructed because of which the cost went up nearly double. In spite of this, GOA is the maximum beneficiary of KR since all trains pass thru MADGAON. Whereas the people of Mangalore who are residents of Mumbai have been requesting KR to introduce another train exclusively for Mangalore which is a genuine demand. GOD knows when this will happen !! Legistlators/Parliamentarians of Coastal Karnataka are yet to wake up.
