Maharashtra governor S C Jamir on Monday July 13 condoled the demise of veteran film and theatre personality Nilu Phule in Pune in the wee hours on Monday.  
 
In a condolence message Jamir stated that Nilu Phule had reached the stature of an institution in the world of Marathi cinema and theatre. He had immortalized innumerable roles he donned in films and plays. A versatile actor, Phule had the rare ability to portray both the roles of a villain and character artiste with equal aplomb. His demise is a great loss to the world of theatre and films, especially in Maharashtra, he added.
 
On the personal level, Phule remained committed to the welfare of the poor and the oppressed, expressed Jamir.
