Mangalore: S M Krishna Gives Green Signal for Opening Full-fledged Passport Office in City

Mangalore, Jul 14: Convener of Mangalore Railway Development Action Committee P V Mohan has informed that union minister for foreign affairs, S M Krishna, has agreed to open full-fledged passport offices in Mangalore and Hubli in place of passport facilitation centres proposed earlier.
"The minister has already written to the state Chief Minister in this connection. Notification about the opening of the offices will be released in August. All India Congress Committee general secretary Oscar Fernandes had taken interest in the issue and had personally requested Krishna to permit opening of the passport office in the city," Mohan explained.
As already informed, facilitation centres will be opened in Gulbarga and Belgaum. Only processes relating to the final phase remain to be attended to, before these centres can become operational, the officials of the department of foreign affairs said.
Mohan also added that minister of state in the railways K H Muniappa has promised to hold a meeting with E Ahmed and Oscar Fernandes at Delhi on Tuesday July 14 for discussing the issue of the extension of Bangalore-Mangalore train to Kannur.
