Mumbai, Jul 17: Konkan Taram – Jerimeri honoured the SSC toppers by organizing a felicitation programme for them at St Jude Church Jerimeri at 8 am on Sunday July 12.
It was an honour for the Konkani-speaking Catholics, as Ashwin D'Souza, who hails from a Mangalorean Konkani-speaking family, scored 90% in the SSC board examination of Maharashtra and turned out to be the topper in St Jude high school.
Denzil Gonsalves, who also hails from a Konkani-speaking Catholic Mangalorean family, stood fourth in St Jude high school. Even though there are many Catholic educational institutions in Mumbai, most of the time, the toppers / rank holders used to be from the non-Catholic communities, but at St Jude high school this year, the Mangalorean Catholics hogged the limelight and etched out a name for themselves in the history of St Jude high school.
The felicitation programme was organized after the Konkani Eucharistic celebration on Sunday.
Fr Frank Fernandes (new principal of St Jude high school) presented the mementoes and bouquets to Ashwin D'Souza (son of Thomas D'Souza and Agnes D'Souza) and Denzil Gonsalves (son of Denis Gonsalves and Lenny Gonsalves). Joseph D'Souza and Jacinta D'Souza offered gift vouchers on behalf of Konkan Taram to them. Benjamin Miranda organized music for the Konkan Taram choir group. Secretary Flora D'Souza compered the programme.
