Mangalore, Jul 19:  Following cancellation of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s visit to areas in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts affected by natural calamities, Home Minister Dr V S Acharya who was scheduled to visit these areas skipped his visit to rain and sea erosion affected areas in DK district. He ended his district visit with a short meeting of officials at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Sunday, July 19.

CM’s flight did not land at Mangalore airport due to the bad weather. With CM’s scheduled visit to rain-ravaged areas in the districts cancelled,  it was scheduled that Acharya will visit all these with officials and local MLAs. But V S Acharya after finishing his scheduled visits in Udupi district cut-short his DK district visit by planning to hold only a meeting of the officials and skipping the visit to rain-affected areas.

The meeting planned with officials too was only of 20-minute-duration after which he informed the officials that he had to attend some other pressing engagement due to which the visits to rain and sea erosion affected areas have been cancelled.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, V S Acharya said that the state government so far has released Rs 5 crore for relief works at rain-ravaged areas. But there is need for Rs 33 crore as relief for works that needs to be undertaken in the twin districts, he said.

Speaking about the problem of ore-laden trucks, Acharya said that the district roads have been damaged due to increased traffic of ore-laden trucks and necessary action will be taken to curb ore-laden truck menace. The trucks will be banned within a week after discussing all the probabilities, he assured.

District in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar, MLAs N Yogish Bhat, Abhayachandra Jain and U T Khader were present at the meeting.

Meanwhile, the residents of the rain-affected areas since past two days have been demanding people’s representatives to visit the areas so that their grievances can be heard and some temporary solutions are found. Following residents have also shown their ire through media by stating that ministers have neglected the areas which have been affected due to floods.

@Mr.Nagesh Nayak , We are here not to compare in which state who did what . If we want change then a new step has to be taken . as per u if congress is not willing to take a new step then BJP shud atleast do that . then you can say JAI BJP ,If not it is not worth praising BJP/CM who was half heartedly on his way to visit victims of flood affected areas in mangalore and took a U-turn on the way as soon as he got a excuse . If it was during elections he would have definately visited .

Great Pandit Nehru could not stay in India (forget about visiting soldiers )when Chinese were attacking India. He went to attend PEACE CONFERENCE when India was on fire. Indian soldiers were not even provided with SNOW BOOT,GOLVES,GOGGLES while they were bravely fighting Chinese. Our Brigadier John Dalavi was arrested by Chinese with AK47 without bullets !! (Brave Brigadier fired all bullets at chinese)Pls refer:Himalayan Blunder . So,for me Mr Acharya''s SKIP infront of Nehru''s SKIP is very very minor mistake.

The visit by Politicos is a waste of timefor all. They keep all the officals like Police, revenure dept. busy thus preventing them from doing meaningful duites. The visit is only a PR exercise without any fruitful results for the affected people.

Response to comment by respected Mr. Nagesh Nayak:

    1. If there is a will, there is a way. BJP government has not demonstrated that they are serious about providing relief to the people whose lives have been ravaged by the monsoon. With this comment, I am no way saying the past governments have done better. In fact, the past Janata Dal and Congress governments also had pathetic records of providing relief or advanced planning to the monsoon affected.

    2. Talk about Karnataka state and do not point fingers about other states. That is no way to solve a problem. The Maharastra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh visited the affected areas during the 26/11 in consort with film producer Ram Gopal Varma. During the recent monsoon, the current Maharastra chief minister toured Mumbai by helicopter provided to him by the state. Currently, I find it hard to believe that any Indian political party is with the people, let alone the BJP. As soon as they come to power they forget the people and are busy trying to amass massive amounts on wealth.

P.S: It is considered more decent on the Internet to not use upper-case. I request you to please understand and comply.

The schedule of public servants like the chief minister, cabinet ministers and department secretaries should be made available online. The public should be able to see what is more pressing for their schedule than reviewing the plight of the people who put them in office. The citizens are also to blame here since there is hardly any activism.
