Governor Jamir Mourns Demise of Dr Gangubai Hangal

Mumbai, Jul 22:
Governor S C Jamir has deeply grieved the demise of veteran Hindustani classical vocalist Padma Vibhushan Dr Gangubai Hangal in Hublli, on Tuesday, July 21.
 
In a condolence message, Jamir said, “I am at a loss to express my feelings of grief at the news of the demise of Dr Gangubai Hangal. She was one of the most admired vocalists in the Hindustani tradition, not only in Maharashtra but in the entire country. Hangal had a special association with Maharashtra and particularly Mumbai, where her career in music blossomed. Her contribution to the promotion, popularization and improvisation of classical music was indeed monumental. In her demise, the nation has lost one of the greatest exponents of the Kirana Gharana.”
 
Governor Jamir, in his homage to Dr Gangubai Hangal, also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
