Panaji: Nominations Invited for Umesh Mhambre Award for `Constructive Journalism'

Panaji, Jul 31: The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as a part of its own Centenary Celebrations and Ruby Jubilee Celebrations of the Goa Union of Journalists had instituted an annual award in memory of the late journalist Umesh Mhambre. The award carries a trophy and cash prize of Rs 5,000.00.
 
Late Umesh T Mhambre, a former Senior Reporter of the Daily Navhind Times, was a journalist with ‘constructive journalism’ as his goal. His balanced news coverage  and   positive outlook shall be always remembered by the  industry  and  all  readers  of the Navhind Times. To cherish his memories and encourage the journlaist fraternity  to contribute to their profession in a better way, this annual  award is constituted.
 
The first such award to the best business journalist of Goa for 2007 was awarded to Jaiprakash Kulkarni of Gomantak.
 
The criteria for inviting entries for the award are finalized in consultation with Goa Union of Journalists.
 
The award will be presented on Friday, 18th September, 2009, which happens to be the 3rd death anniversary of the late Umesh Mhambre. Entries for the same should reach either the office of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry or that of the Goa Union of Journalists latest by Saturday, 5th  September, 2009. This award is for the write up, feature or analytical writing on the subject of the ‘Goan Industrial Scenario’ published during the  period 1st January 2008 to 31st December, 2008 in the newspapers across the country.
 
A positive outlook is a must and industry need not only mean small or large industry but will also include tourism, infotech, biotech, mining, real estate, agro, entertainment, and other industries. 
 
Other conditions for the award are as under;
 
1) Writer should be a full time professional working journalist and must have been in the profession in Goa for at least 5 years.
 
2) Write up can be in English, Marathi or Konkani language newspapers.
 
3) The entries shall be judged by three member panel, which shall consist of one person nominated from GCCI and two senior journalists who are not participating for this award. 
  
4) Write up linked to advertorial supplement shall not be entertained.
 
5) Three copies of the entry should be sent.
 
6) There is no age bar to participate in the contest.
 
You  are  requested  to  give  wide  publicity  to  the  above  and  also  circulate  the  contents  amongst  fellow  journalists.
