Mangalore: Students celebrate festival of Rakhi in Unique Manner

Mangalore, Aug 5: 'Raksha Bandhan', a festival in which the sisters seek the blessings and protection of brothers as per Hindu tradition, was celebrated in a special way in the city on Wednesday, August 5, by the students.
Mentally challenged students of Sanidhya Residential school for the mentally challenged children and students of Madhusudhan Kushe PU College, celebrated 'Raksha Bandhan' in a special way.
The mentally challenged students of Sanidhya, Shaktinagar here, arrived at State Bank India's main branch in the city and tied the Rakhi to the hands of the officers and other staff members of the bank as well as the customers. The customers and the bank staff expressed happiness to have got an opportunity to celebrate the occasion in a special manner.
Vasanth Shetty, trustee of Sanidhya School, felt that the significance of a festival gains meaning only when it is celebrated in a unique manner. When the celebrations are special, students also are able to understand the importance of each of the festivals, he said.
In Madhusudhan Kushe PU College, the women staff of the college tied rakhi to the guests, who were present at the programme, by performing 'Arathi' and applying 'Tilaka' on the their foreheads in a traditional way. Boys and girl students of the college also tied Rakhi to each others' hands.
Mohan Kumblekar, guest of the occasion, said that the new generation of students should imbibe and follow the culture of the soil, which is very congenial for leading of a life without any problems. Indian customs have thrived since ages, as they have been proved as practical and right, he opined.
Correspondent of the college Suresh Raj, trustee Swarna Raj, principal Sanjeeva, teaching staff Pratheem kumar and others were present.
