Mangalore, Aug 5: 'Raksha Bandhan', a festival in which the sisters seek the blessings and protection of brothers  as per Hindu tradition,  was celebrated in a special way  in the city on Wednesday, August 5, by the students.

Mentally challenged students of Sanidhya Residential school for the mentally challenged children and students of Madhusudhan Kushe PU College, celebrated 'Raksha Bandhan' in a special way.

The mentally challenged students of Sanidhya, Shaktinagar here, arrived at State Bank India's  main branch in the city and tied the Rakhi to the hands of the officers and other staff  members of the bank as well as the customers. The customers and the bank staff expressed happiness to have got an opportunity to celebrate the occasion in a special manner.

Vasanth Shetty, trustee of Sanidhya School, felt that the significance of a festival gains meaning only when it is celebrated in a unique manner. When the celebrations are special, students also are able to understand the importance of each of the festivals, he said.

In Madhusudhan Kushe PU College, the women staff of the college tied rakhi  to the guests, who were present at the programme, by performing 'Arathi' and applying 'Tilaka' on the their foreheads in a traditional way. Boys and girl students of the college also tied Rakhi to each others' hands.

Mohan Kumblekar, guest of the occasion, said that the new generation of  students should imbibe and follow the culture of the soil, which is very congenial for leading of a life without any problems. Indian customs have thrived since ages, as they have been proved as practical and right, he opined.

Correspondent of the college Suresh Raj, trustee Swarna Raj, principal Sanjeeva, teaching staff Pratheem kumar and others were present.

Rakshabandhan is a culture which bonds love between siblings and ensures protection of female kin. There is no harm is celebrating this unique culture by those who believe in the practice and there is nothing wrong or harm. As far the debate on universality of God is concerned, I stand by my statement and we are all creations of Eishwar and we have to worship Him alone.

We used to celebrate rakshabandhan when we all were in our native place. Now everyone is away but sisters make it a point to send it through courier. People stop debating and fighting over religion...just celebrate such occasions and spread happiness.

Mr. Ashok, • Do you know who our creator is? • You know why & what purpose our Creator creates us? Worship the Creator is not a human word. We are our Creators creation. Our duty to honor, give praises & worship to our living God Almighty, not dead god or earthly things. Believe & trust in Living & only one God. Try to know the truth & seek the Creator. In Jesus name I pray for you.

I feel very happy and proud that I am a citizen of India which is rich with its culture. This is one face. India has one more face, which is opposite of the above statement of mine. In India everything is meant only for that particular day.

Next day even the same sister requires help, there not be a single brother to help her. We have to understand our culture, We have to go with our culture and we have to respect our culture too. Then only we have the right to say MERA BHARAT MAHAAN.

Mr Devdas/Mangalore, as your name suggests you have submitted to the will of God and believing and worshipping him alone and not his creations. You have spoken the fundamental truth and God is only one and rest are his creations and without God''s will nothing will come into existance. Thats the message of Islam which says worship the creator and not the creations. Being a muslim, I dare say dargah is unislamic and it is invented by sufis later and it is not a part of islam. Only God has power over everything and nothing can overpower God.
