Mangaluru, Oct 24: The state of Karnataka, especially the coastal area from Mangaluru to Karwar is going to receive heavy rains with thunderstorms in the next 48 hours. This is due to the effect of cyclone 'Kyarr'.

This Low Pressure Area, which is at present located over the east central Arabian Sea will intensify into a depression very soon. In the next 24 hours there is a heavy possibility that this system will become a cyclone generating a storm of high speed. Now the meteorological department is monitoring its movement. It has kept on moving towards the western coast of the country.

Though Kyarr will not have no direct impact on the mainland now, its influence can be seen in the west coast of Karnataka starting from Mangaluru to Karwar as well as Konkan area of Maharashtra and Goa.

Once the cyclone brings in thick clouds, thunderstorms, strong winds and rain, it will gradually weaken after 48 hours and move towards Oman or Yemen coast.

In addition, the weather department also says that Indian seas will experience three tropical storms including Cyclone Kyarr over the next 10 days. The other two, 'Maha' and 'Bulbul' will generate on the east coast in the Bay of Bengal.
