Mangaluru: Heavily pregnant policewoman on duty – Commissioner seeks explanation

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 27: Police commissioner Dr Harsha P S has sought an explanation from the Circle Inspector (CI) of Mulky on the deputation of a heavily pregnant policewoman, who was put for the bandobast duty during the visit of DCM Ashwath Narayan to the district on Friday, October 25.

A commoner had clicked the photo of this pregnant police woman on duty holding the baton and had posted the same on social media. A journalist brought the same to the attention of the police commissioner.

Dr Harsha was extremely unhappy and said that it is not right to depute a heavily pregnant policewoman for public security duty while she should have been sent on maternity leave.

He has also instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Mangaluru North division to look into this matter.

The commissioner also reminded in his response about the baby shower that was arranged for two policewomen of Kadri and Bunder police stations.

Alwin mangalore Actuelly it is not correct from employer to let them work till end of pregnency and take leave after delivery.

It is internationally it is regulated 6weeks before delivery and 8weeks after delivery is normal ,Usually it should follow immediately when woman brings her pregnency certificate and gives to employer.work till last might increase her BP .and harm to baby.It is too much stress to her.

Some private employer misuse this and make them work .Only if men could understand what pregnency is.Why did the woman not asked for her leave I dont know.out of fear?or wanted work as you said. But it is employers responsibility if he makes her work and she gets complications.

Very sad...feel pity for that pregnant police.

...not only that, they had blocked all the connecting roads to highway 66 for some time... It was a heavy traffic jam at surathkal mrpl road at 9 am..
There might be some sick people or some emergency.. no one was bothered to find out...why to stop the traffic...let DCM see the traffic n condition of the roads from mangalore to udupi.,

If the maternity leave yet to start then they should be given office duty and not public security. First and foremost our police department must be trained on family values.
