Mangalore, Aug 8:
Public vented their pent up anger on poor traffic management in the city here on Saturday August 8 after a 20-year-old time-keeper lost his life run over by a bus in an unfortunate accident.

Rakesh (20), working as a time-keeper in a private city bus and resident of Kudkori Gudde in the city came under the wheels of the bus he alighted from after he hit a Maruti Omni parked on the road near Karavali circle in Kankanady here and died on the spot, according to eye witnesses. Following the ill-fated demise of the youth, the local residents and passersby angered over the incident protested against the district administration and alleged them for the poor road and traffic condition in the city.

A shop-keeper near the Karavali circle said that Maruti Omni parked on the road was the reason for the accident. Protesting public demanded the arrival of the top police officials and district administration to the spot. They further demanded the district administration to pay compensation to the family of deceased and also strict action to be taken against the driver of the omni for unauthorized parking on the road.

The protest resulted in traffic jam for over an hour at Kankanady. However, police soon intervened to solve the problem and helped for smooth flow of traffic with assurance to take stringent action against the wrong doer. A case has been registered in this regard at Kadri police station.

I have seen everyday Young men put up their stupid worthless show by hanging on bus steps. Many of them trying to impress girls with their Machoism until they fall off bus and girls laugh at their stupidity. They think that they are smart until they become dead corps.

I had many close calls hitting these idiots when they jumped from moving bus in front of my car. My question is,why they are paying compensation in this case. Are they compensating for the ignorance. This is also the reason to show the stupidity of MCC officials. All this concretisation of roads shows the dumbness of Engineers. All they are trying to Milk the public money.

In a matter of minutes the whole life turns upside down for the family which experiences the effects of accidents. It would be better for the Administrators, drivers and whole lot of people to realise this and to take extra care while driving otherwise more innocent lives would be lost. My sincere condolences to the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace.

Any one want to see the pathetic condition of the road or traffic ,please visit Bejai circle. The Road from Bejai church circle to the Lalbagh circle used to have nice footpath and drainage, where people can walk freely.Today in the name of road widening and concreting ,the footpath and drains are missing. The road divider which has been divided helps in two way traffic but any pedestrian walking on either side of the road is in danger of being hit by a vehicle coming from behind.

I am worried ,someday we may not have to see the same situation what happened with the youth in the above accident.

Manglore Bus drivers drive so irresponsibly.Even if you follow traffic rules they dont allow you to follow.Even if they see a vehicle coming in front. They will still try to overtake & if its a small vehicle you have to go off the road.Traffic police should be held responsible for all these accidents

Sufficient space should have been provided for parking of city buses at Bus stops, contrary to this,by parking of the buses, easy flow of on going vehicles is disturbed. While widening of the roads also, the District Administration and the City Corporation were callous to look into this aspect. In whole of Mangalore, only in one place, near City Corporation Office such kind of extra road margin is provided for stopping of buses.

Not only Private bus Drivers are very arrogant in Mangalore, all most all Vehicle drivers do not know about trafice rules, only few who are goning from abroad they follow the rules others drive vehicles like anything even in Roundabout, there is no giveway system in roundabout. Our Trafic Department should teach our drivers how to fallow the rules.

I really wonder how many of us follow traffic rules while we drive our vehicles and park our vehicles. Yes, this young man who lost his life alighted from a moving bus without noticing the parked Maruti Omni. Whom to blame now .... ultimately the blame will naturally come on Traffic Police.

Our Traffic police is suppose to be vigilant in sensitive areas & accident prone zones. Feel sorry for the gentleman who lost his life. May his soul rest in peace.

It is very sad to note a young boy has lost his life due to three reasons. 1. he has alighted from a running bus as he is the time keeper of the bus.2.Omni was parked on the busy road. 3. absence of Traffic Police near Karavali Circle. Whom to blame? Lack of Traffic Discipline has DEEP ROOTED in Mangalore.

Traffic Police are stationed and buisy in potential areas where they earn their daily bread. It is high time the Police Authorities initiate disciplinary action against erring Vehicle Drivers and man the high density circles. Like Jyothi, Karavali and Mahaveer Circle.

Its time to take action by district administration for the life of poor pedestrians by erecting proper parking places, though it may be paid parking zones or multistorey buildings, also by instructing the drivers of all the vehicles including Buses to pick & the passengers at bus-shelters only, let the authorities start imposing penalty on errant drivers who pick & the passengers by suddenly applying brake to moving bus on the roads. Other reason for loss of life or accidents in m.lore is improper road lane systems where driver feels that he is not driving the vehicle but flying airborne !!!!!

This is the begining of people''s frustration over poor traffic managment that had killed hundreds of people. I have witnessed it in Mangalore, Udipi, and Surathkal. People must hold the traffic management officers accountable for allwing illigal parking, unlawful speeding and failure to yield crossing. Then only, civilization can bare fruit in Mangaalore area.

Its very sad n unfortunate that a youth has lost his life because of bad traffic management. The public here has shown the solidarity in protesting against the malpractices and corrupt govt and police officials. Janata voice is more powerful and heard. People should hold peaceful protests from time to time and if the situation doesnt improve people should hold picketing, squatting and other peaceful means to high light the issues and all of us must stand by these protestors until we get our rights. Traffic management is the need of the hour as we hear about accidents, injuries and deaths because of errant drivers. Janatha shakti is janardhan shakti.
