Bengaluru: Elderly relatives killed to pay off Rs 10 lac loan

Bengaluru, Oct 28: Earlier in the week, 30-year-old Venkatesh and his 21-year-old wife Arpita were arrested for the murder of an elderly couple in Bengaluru. The accused who were married back in 2016, killed their relatives to clear out their debts. Reportedly, Venkatesh who worked as a cab driver, along with his wife had a debt of Rs 10 Lac.

On October 16, the couple hatched a plan to murder 63-year-old Chandregowda and his 55-year-old wife Lakshmamma. The news of the murder was noticed the following day where the police discovered the couple bludgeoned to death.

According to the police investigation, it was found that Lakshmamma was a distant relative of Venkatesh. The accused couple met the elderly couple a month before the murder at a wedding in Mysuru. They targeted the old couple after spotting the amount of jewellery worn by Lakshmamma.

On the unfortunate day of Oct 16, the accused couple visited Lakshmamma's home and assaulted the victims with a spanner to death.

The accused then allegedly plundered the house for cash, gold, silver and other valuables. They sold the gold at Shri Dhanalaxmi Jewellers for a price of Rs 8,60,000 lac and escaped to a village in Dakshina Kannada. However, they were arrested by police on Saturday.

On conducting further probe, Venkatesh allegedly confessed to a similar crime committed earlier in July of this year. Reportedly, he confessed to killing another distant relative, an elderly couple in Mandya district 55-year-old Gundegowda and 50-year-old Lalitamma.

    the murderer couple took loan with the intention of doing business and repaying it. But the failing economy put them under the loss and they resorted to these kind of heineous crime.

    RIP to the couple. The economy of the country needs to be set right immediately.

    Very sad .what we learn here ?Dont keep it to show your richness outside.Dont believe own relatives too.When gold ,money means for some people ,,humanity
    isnt valued.But only money.They murdered other people too means am sure there will be still more in their list.These people must be punished till life long or ultimum.Heartfelt sympathy to their family of murdered.may their souls rest in peace.
