Mangaluru: MCC's apathy - Citizens' group starts 'Selfie with Pothole' campaign

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 29: A unique campaign to highlight the total failure of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) administration is undertaken by a group of civilians, who are thoroughly fed up of the potholes on road, no footpaths for pedestrians to walk and many works kept half done. The group calling itself as MCC Civic Group consists of civic and social activists. This group has sent out a request to the public to click a selfie with a pothole and share the same on social media.

The public has to click photo with a pothole and share the same with the caption 'Selfie with Pothole' @civicmcc or on Facebook page MCC Civic Group, mentioning the location, and post tag all entries with the hashtag #Fixitanna-ROADhaTHODha.

Responding to the call given by the group a citizen by the name Shawn C Fernandez shared his photo with a pothole on the Facebook page and wrote, "The great Kulshekar Main Road connecting to Moodabidri, Karkala and beyond! Just two areas of our pathetic pot-hole laid roads- Kulshekar Main Road and Cordel Shaktinagar Main Road-Where are our roads?"

One more person said that the public needs to take selfies along with the administration people, who are responsible for such a mess. Joyson Dias, a citizen, wrote, "Potholes too simple a word, call it craters..."

Member of MCC Civic Group, Rohan Shiri said, "These initiative is taken to alert the concerned officials as well as the public. In addition, we held a silent protest recently in front of the office of MCC to highlight the plight of roads in the city. A solo protest was also held by social activist Arjun Mascarenhas at the Nanthoor circle, which got a massive response from the public. As it is election time now, we want to create awareness among the voting public."

Rohan says that more citizens of the city have to join hands with them to make their voice reach the administration so that there is some improvement in the conditions of roads and footpaths.

We have tried Both Congress and BJP in MCC and both have not done enough for this city where the potential to growth is very high. I feel Aam Admi Party is the last hope here if we need good Roads, Hospitals, clean and corrupt free Administration. or else lets forget every thing and keep doing communal politics which we are good in.

being a resident of this mangagala ooru, i can say without hesitation that mangalore is the most corrupt city in the state of Karnataka. Administration is zero. All the government officials want to get transferred to mangalore as people of this city give good amount of bribe unlike the ghatta public, which even today throws 10 rupee notes.

I really wonder whether this city will ever come near to Mysuru in terms of cleanliness and maintenance of roads etc. The flower sellers occupying the footpath opposite big bazar is a clear example that there is some adjustment between the MCC, traffic police and the flower vendors. There is absolutely no footpath on that side.

This road look like inner street (gally). This is shame for MCC who failed to build proper roads in-spite of collecting huge taxes. The existing MCC staff should be sacked and new staff who is interested in working should be appointed in the interest of development.

It is a very good move by the group. More and more people should join this so that these officials from this so called "Manglaore Corruption Corporation" (MCC) will get out their slumber. We as public pay only tax and do not question as to how our funds are utilized. Now this is right time to wake up and question them. Individually if our own work is done...period, we are not bothered about others and what is happening around us.
