The mass marriages would be held on April 26 and May 24, 2020.

The department has come out with a 24-point guideline for conducting marriages in temples.

An eight-gram gold mangalsutra costing around Rs 40,000, a sum of Rs10,000 and Rs 5,000 in cash would be given to each bride and bridegroom for purchase of wedding clothes and meeting other expenses.

The amount would be transferred to bank accounts of bride and groom, respectively, Muzrai and Ports and Fisheries Kota Srinivasa Poojari told presspersons here on Thursday.

The estimated cost of 1,000 marriages would be Rs 50 crore.

The department has not yet given name to this programme till now, he said.

Spending on these mass marriages should be kept at bare minimum.

Please not that the money collected from 100 major ‘A’ grade temples managed by Govt is used for this mass marriage scheme and not from tax payers money.

Mass marriage lessens the financial burden on marrying couples. Getting married individually is such a waste of money with some giing for lavish arrangements. Marriage is marriage even if its in a group. Money saved thus can be used by the couple to start a new life without much financial burden.

Excellent idea from the Chief Minister. Please include a decent wedding gift, like about 10 lac rupees per newly wed couple to begin their happy marriage life.
