Mumbai, Aug 11: A life gains worth, if one devotes himself/herself for the welfare of others and keeps his inner conscience true, said Sri Gurudevanand Swami of Sri Kshetra Odiyoor Mutt in Dakshina Kannada district, during his birthday celebrations held at Swami Nityanand Auditorium, Sion (East), here on Saturday August 8.  The programme was organized by Sri Gurudev Seva Balaga, Sri Vajramata Mahila Vikas Kendra Maharashtra unit and local devotees.

 
Swamiji speaking after releasing Hani Hani Ibbani, collection of Kannada limericks authored by veteran poet, litterateur and teacher B S Kurkal urged the people to take care of their aged parents at home, since old-age homes are thriving as commercial ventures. The children can truly repay the debt of their parents by taking care of them during twilight years of their life.
 
Swamiji in his message called on the parents to raise their children with good moral values as the traditional culture is under threat with today’s modern lifestyle of the youth. The children should be taught to strive for upliftment of poor and downtrodden and also contribute for the upkeep of orphaned cows put up at shelters, instead of celebrating birthdays and other occasions with plenty of alcohol. The media should work with social responsibility and not create social unrest, he said.
 
Further Swamiji also urged the gathering to be the instrument of peace, in strengthening bonds among the people of diverse culture and religions in the society.
