Moodbidri, Nov 4: A youth, after falling into a pit dug in connection with road works, lost his life when travelling as a pillion rider of a motor bike. This tragedy happened on Sunday November 3. 

The ill-fated youth has been identified as Prajwal Acharya (22), son of Purushotham Acharya. He belonged to Bajpe and used to work for a shop at Yedapadavu. He was returning after visiting the residence of a friend at Iruvathur for attending the funeral of the friend's father during late night hours on Saturday. Perhaps, the rider of the motor bike, Deekshan from Iruvathur, in whose bike Prajwal was returning home, lost sight of the pit and fell into the pit along with his motor bike. 

Prajwal was injured in the chest, face, stomach and several other parts of the body. He was provided initial treatment at a hospital in the town before taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru. Although treatments were given there, he breathed his last on Sunday morning, it is learnt. 

A culvert was under construction on national highway 169 at the spot where this accident took place. Many accidents keep happening because of non-display of warning signals and fencing around the dangerous potholes and pits that are left uncovered during road repairs, particularly in dark conditions. Police from here have registered a case and are investigating.
