Finland Could Act as India’s Gateway to European Union (EU), Says Finnish Ambassador

The Ambassador of Finland in India Asko Numminen said that the trade between India and Finland has doubled during the last five years and that many Finnish companies are investing in India, particularly in Maharashtra. Mentioning that Finland could act as India’s gateway to the European Union (EU), he extended invitation to Indian companies to come to Finland.
 
Ambassador Numminen was speaking to governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan, here on Thursday August 13.  It was a farewell call by the ambassador, who has completed his four-year-term in India.
 
The ambassador told the governor that Finn Air, the national carrier of Finland has introduced direct flights between Helsinki and Delhi as well as Helsinki and Mumbai. He said the six-hour direct flight connection will enable more Finnish people to come to Maharashtra and vice-versa. Numminen informed the governor that Finland attaches great importance to environment and climate change and has developed technologies for the protection of environment and renewable energy production.  
 
Appreciating the good work done by Numminen, to promote Indo-Finnish relations during his tenure, governor Jamir observed that Finland has assumed important role in the EU and could play a vital part in world affairs. He told the Ambassador that India has entered into a new era of development and expressed happiness that many Finnish companies are coming to Maharashtra at the right moment.
