BANGLORE, Aug 14: Election Commission of India has served a show cause notice on Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for violation of the model conduct for elections by making a series of promises while addressing electoral campaign meetings.
The Chief Minister, according to official sources, had been issued a notice seeking a reply for reportedly promising during his election meetings on behalf of the ruling BJP in Kollegal that the Government would implement developmental works in the constituency if the party candidate was elected.
The Kollegal assembly segment falls under the Chamarajangar district, which is one of the most backward districts in the state.
When the electorate of the constituency complained to the Chief Minister about the poor conditions of the roads and lack of infrastructure facilities, Yeddyurappa reportedly replied that the people should vote for BJP if they wanted improvement in the condition of roads and development.
`If you vote for BJP, you choose development,’’ the Chief Minister said asking the people to support the party candidate G N Nanjundaswamy.
The opposition Congress and JD(S) leaders have been alleging that the Chief Minister and other BJP ministers were misusing official machinery.
The other constituencies which go to polls on August 18 in the state are: Govindarajanagar in Bangalore city, Channapatna and Ramanagara in the Ramanagara district and Chittapur in Gulbarga district.
