GRAF, City Konkani Association, to Celebrate ‘World Konkani Day–2009’ on Aug 30

Goan Review Art Foundation (GRAF), the cultural body behind the popular Konkani-English bi-monthly ‘The Goan Review’, in association with Konkani Association of the metro, will celebrate ‘World Konkani Day 2009’ at Antonio D’Souza ANZA School Hall, Gloria Church, Byculla, at 7.00 pm on Sunday August 30.
 
World Konkani Day will be celebrated to mark the 17th anniversary of the inclusion of Konkani into the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution.
 
This great day will be celebrated with a talk on Konkani language by Lawrence D’Souza, renowned Konkani litterateur and honourary secretary of Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra, followed by a cultural programme highlighting the rich traditional culture of the Konkan. The programme will consist of ‘Mando-Dulpods’, folk dances, songs, mimicry, and music.
 
Prominent Konkani personalities, who have rendered yeoman service to Konkani literature, art, and culture, will be felicitated during the function.
 
Fr Ramesh Francis, Konkani activist and director of Kalaangann, Mangalore, will be the chief guest. 
 
John D’Silva, management consultant and vice-president of All India Konkani Parishat, will be the guest of honour on the occasion.
