Mangalore: DC Bans Mimicking of Traditional 'Daivaradhane' Practices in Processions, Shows etc

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Aug 20: Through an order, the Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner has banned the practice of mimicking, donning the costumes or in any other way copying the 'Janapada Daivaradhane' practices and forms in public functions, Ganeshotsav, Sharadotsav, processions, annual days of educational institutions or in any of the other public programmes.

Accordingly, the superintendent of the police in the district has written to all the deputy superintendents of police, inspectors, circle inspectors and sub-inspectors in the district to immediately respond to complaints if any about the acts that violate the said ban.

N K Salian, president of the 'Daivaradhane Samiti' of Moodbidri Nalke alias Panara Samaj, said that the organization welcomes the ban imposed by the deputy commissioner, in accordance with a request it had made earlier on this issue.

The 'Daivaradhane' practices of Tulunadu have religious significance since the olden days and are always coupled with religious sentiments and sanctity. As such, presenting of the 'Daivaradhane' practices as an object of entertainment in a shoddy manner at public places is a distasteful practice, which the organization condemns, he added.
