Panaji: Massive Beach Erosion at Candolim

Panaji, Aug 20: Massive beach erosion has taken place on the Candolim beach as a result of the grounded River Princess vessel along the beachline in the Arabian sea.

A number of beach shacks have already been washed away along with the trees as a result of the erosion.


 

The Goa water resource department had installed geo tubes along the beachline to prevent further beach erosion.

But the present situation is clearly showing that the geo tubes estimated to a figure of six crores installed by the WRD has failed in protecting the Candolim beach as most of the tubes have been washed away with the strong wave current.

    You need to get advice from experts. The Dutch are the world leaders in sea defences. The trouble is you have so much corruption in you country, Most of you don''t care as you would like to be able to be on the recieving end of kick backs yourself.

    I am very saddened to see the erosion of Candolim beach which is one of the attractions that drew me to visit Goa nearly 10 years ago. Such an idyllic beach should have been looked after by the Indian government to protect Goa''s income local people and for tourism. Let''s hope they resolve the matter urgently as it has been several years now since the River Princess has been grounded.

    Dykes are the only alternative option for arresting more damages. Due to Global Warming & Ocean Reclamation, some vulnerable coasts around the world are getting consumed & it will go on more furiously if not blocked.
