Madikeri, Nov 18: In a tragic incident that occurred in Alekatte of Chowdlu village in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district, a son, who saw his mother hanging as he came home, killed himself in a similar way by hanging.

Tangamani (55) and her son Harish (26) are the unfortunate victims of this tragedy. Tangamani, who is a resident of Alekatte road earned her livelihood by working as a daily wage labourer. Her son Harish was an auto driver.

On Sunday, November 18 Tangamani had hanged herself in the house when Harish was not at home. When Harish came home, he was shocked to see his mother hanging. He immediately informed his relatives, who rushed to his house and later went to the police station to register a complaint. During this time, Harish also went inside the house and hanged himself with his lungi.

The story behind this extreme step by mother and son has come to light after their deaths. Harish had married a girl, a resident of Alekatte Road Siddeshwara Tyre Works vicinity, nine months ago. However, their marital life was not okay. His bride was at Harish's home for just 15 days and had left for her parent's house. Though Harish tried his best to bring her back, she did not respond. In addition, Harish's wife also filed a complaint in the court seeking alimony and divorce. Due to this both Harish and Tangamani were dejected in life.

Both Harish and Tangamani used to share their sad story with relatives and neighbours often. On Sunday afternoon around 2.30 pm Tangamani killed herself and later Harish followed her in death.

Somwarpet circle inspector Nanjundegowda, station officer Shivashankar and personnel visited the spot and did the inspection. A case in registered in the Somwarpet police station.

Our Indian Law always favors the women. Greedy wives abandon their husband for the alimony. I feel if the wife is found guilty then she should be made to pay alimony and all her jewellery to her husband. Then see how the count divorce case gradually drops down. I hope these word falls into the right ears.

It looks like idiot lady just married to apply for divorce... So that she will get money and play with another man in the same way ...criminal...she ruined two beautiful personalities... Life long this lady should be in the jail and get two times food as her "alimony"..May the souls of departed mother and son may rest in peace... Very sad 😢

I totally agree with you Cynthia. The law for divorce needs to be revised. Every day hundreds of divorce cases are getting registered in India out of which most are filed only to get alimony and other benefits. The guilty should be punished be it husband or wife. Why are women not punished even when they found guilty and made to pay the same amount what she has claimed from her husband. Trust me if this law is revised then i think marriages would be more secure than ever before.
