Bengaluru: 54,000 deaths in 5 years - Karnataka stands fourth in country in accidents

Bengaluru, Nov 18: In the study report that is published by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) of the union government, Karnataka is placed at fourth among the states in which most number of road accidents take place. 

This report, released by MORTH is for the year 2018. In the past five years, 2.2 lac accidents have taken place in the state. More than 54,000 people have lost their lives in these accidents. However, compared to 2017, the number of accidents has reduced in 2018. 

In 2017, as many as 42,542 accidents were reported, while in 2018, the number is reduced to 41,707. The number of deaths in road accidents had gone up in 2018 compared to 2017. In 2017, around 10,609 people lost their lives in road accidents, while the corresponding figure for 2018 is 10,990. 

The report has highlighted one more important point. In Karnataka 26 people are being killed for every 100 accidents that are taking place. In 2017, this number was 24.9. 

Most number of accidents was reported in the months of January, May, June and July in the states of Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.

    I don't hold potholes or the road conditions responsible for any of the accidents. The major reason for the accidents is over speeding. If the police can curb over speeding, they can avert the accidents.

    It is pertinent and evident that all possible precautions should be taken by The Police Department to reduce these accidental deaths and it is pertinent and necessary that public should lend whole-hearted support to the department to ensure that THE TRAFFIC RULES are strictly enforced and followed.

    In every important City The Public should join hands with the Police and assist them in every possible way. IN A CITY LIKE MANGALORE AND OTHER IMPORTANT CITIES Traffic squads have been formed with the support of the public. It would be good for people to join these squads.

    Dear Joe Sir,
    If everyone fills up the pots on the roads and spend from their own pocket, the concerned government employees will become more corrupt and gobble more public funds.
    This is India where almost 99% of the civic administration people and employees is corrupt to the core.
    When I am paying the tax to the government, the government is bound to provide me proper roads. There is no compromise in that.

    Your shasthra is outdated now. It used to work only in your young days.

    Why not? We have such drivers in our state who do not respect pedestrians and would not allow people walk on the little strip of pathway used by pedestrians. When a pedestrians cross on the zebra crossing the drivers would horn. The drivers think the road is owned by them. We do not have a proper police system in our country.

    Congratulations to all the people representatives..what wonderful roads we have in our state!
    especially the roads connecting DK with ghat areas..ah they are the best in the world. To top it up the world number 1 Burj Pumpwell tower is also coming up.

    No accountability for anyone ...No caution on road repair, no planning on deviation , No Quality on work..
    No proper training for drivers and no follow of traffic rules .. mostly those drive from north Karnataka and Kerala state dont have driving sense...

    No proper roads is main reason for this. Why Govt is not repairing roads. Garbage given to private. Let the road also given to private means it will be better.
