Mumbai, Aug 24: The first annual general body meeting of Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha, Maharastra was held at Billava Bhavan, Santacruz (East) here on Monday August 23. The meeting was presided over by Chandrashekar Palettady, edior of Karnataka Malla, a metro-based Kannada daily and sangh president.
Speaking on the occasion, Chandrashekar said that the ceremonious inaugural of sangh is not essential for happiness of service is as good as inauguration. Sangh has the chief objective of responding to the needs of its members. If any journalist works within the frame work of professional ethics, he or she need not work under pressure of the authorities. The commitment to duty itself will qualify their service, he said.
Meanwhile, Chandrashekar announced that the efforts are on to get goup insurance coverage for all the members, besides making sangh a model association if each member extends his or her support in this endeavour, he added.
Sangh founder honorary chief secretary Rons Bantwal said that it has been said by the media gurus that Indian print journalism will not see a decline, which has been proved wrong in the recent happenings as more presspersons are driven to streets owing to mushrooming TV channels across the nation who relay the news in a flash. In the changing scenario, even a cameraman is capable of reporting the news, he said.
Executive committee members Eshwar Alevoor (Akshaya, Kannada monthly bulletin sub-editor), Suresh Acharya (Udayavani, Kannada daily sub-editor) and chartered accountants I R Shetty and Shankar Shetty, legal advisor advocate Kadandale Parari Prakash L Shetty and medical officer Dr Suresh S Rao Kateel also spoke at the occasion.
Senior journalist D K Mendon offered condolences on the demise of veteran journalist late K T Venugopal who served as president of advisory committee of sangh and also left has foot print in Kannada journalism in the metro.
Surendra S Malli (Janaprabha) and Savita Suresh Shetty (Karnataka Malla) were enrolled as members of sangh on the occasion.
Konkani Mirror, quarterly bulletin editor and sangh vice-president Sadanand D Nayak welcomed the gathering. Sangh honorary chief secretary Rons Bantwal delivered the introductory speech.
