Mumbai to Mangaluru luxury buses raided – Huge fraud unearthed

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Nov 25: In a joint operation conducted by the officials of Belagavi, Hubballi and Mangaluru, a huge fraud has come to light. Goods worth crore of rupees that were being illegally transported between Mumbai and Mangaluru in luxury buses have been confiscated.

Officials belonging to various departments, including transport and commercial tax, conducted lightning strikes at Belagavi, Kolapur and Nippani check posts and more than 30 luxury buses have been seized.

Transport commissioner Shivaprakash, joint transport commissioner Purushotam, commercial tax commissioner Shrikar and additional commissioner Nitesh Patel directly guided the operation in which the lead was taken by Belagavi commercial tax joint commissioner Raman, Hubballi commercial tax joint commissioner Shri Itagi and Mangaluru zone commercial tax joint commissioner Udayshankar.

The confiscated buses include those belonging to three separate companies. The officials have disclosed that these buses were transporting goods that did not have any bill or permission.

Most of the goods were meant for vendors in Mangaluru and Udupi. The officials said that more investigation will be carried out and more stringent rules will be implemented in coming days to prevent the same.

In addition, the officials have said that higher level of operation will be conducted, if the travel companies do not adhere to the rules.

Due to this joint operation, it has come to light that huge amount of taxes were being evaded due to this illegal way of transportation. The worth of confiscated goods is said to be in lacs of rupees. But there is no official confirmation regarding this.

These kind of illegal activities are happening for long and i suspect "everybody including authorities" has a share in it.

These raids must happen on regular basis everywhere. Must not stop with one raid.

This must be just for 'Kannkatt' like they remove the horns of city buses in mlore. After a week the same horns are back in those buses.

Yatha Raja tatha prajaa..As the changu and mangu company is ruling the country and showing how to misuse power and do back door activities and also take even judiciary into confidence, the common people are also making the most of it.

Jai all officers in the raid, who will take a good cut from the bus owners and the golmaaal will continue in the oldest sanatana country of the world.

Good Job by every official. I have sent 2 suit cases from Mumbai to Mangalore and paid 2000+ but without receipt. Second question is who gets the money, owner or workers. All fraud in todays world of commercial operation.
Why trucking companies were quiet all this time while loosing business.

    Joe
You r the culprit. You should have insisted on receipt. We ourselves do this illegal work and encourage and why blame the bus company or its workers? Root cause is "it is Govt job to plug the loop holes" as if as citizen we don't have any responsibility

I don't get the point seizing buses. Seize the goods and fine the person sending the goods. I'm sure the bus operators would give all the details of the person sending the goods.

One more business model will be forced to close down because these punks never ran a business all their lives but lived on taxpayers money guaranteeing hefty salary every month on time. Some1 tell these punks running busses without parcel service is a loss business not even enough for maintainence of busses. They r surviving only because of parcels. Kids go & study coz business is finished in this country. Go study & work for Gujuratis

Many hoteliers used to get raw materials for food preparation (say, onion) when cost of such items used to get high in the local market. Similarly, a regular item that was sent to Mumbai by contacts in Karnataka was gunny-bagful of coconuts and red rice (boiled rice) since hoteliers were finding it expensive to buy it in Mumbai.

Well, you guys have an easy option now - call the PMO and pledge your support in next elections. All charges will be dropped, even before filing.
