Bantwal, Aug 26: In a tragic accident that occurred on national highway 48 near Poorlapady- Kudrebettu near Kalladka on Wednesday August 26, a person died and four others were seriously injured.
The driver of the car, Balasubrahmanya, resident of Konthuru near Uppinangady, breathed his last in the accident. The accident involved a Maruti Swift car and Eicher lorry carrying iron rods, that were involved with a head-on collision. A newly-wed bride was among the passengers of the car. Sandhya, who had married just three days back and three others were seriously injured and two were admitted into a private hospital in Bantwal, while two others were rushed to Mangalore because of the gravity of their injuries. Priliminary information is that those in the car are residents of Uppinangady.
The car was badly mangled in this incident. The fact that the body of the driver, who was killed instantly in the car, was pulled out of the vehicle with lot of effort by the public, speaks about the gravity of the accident.
Including two children, seven passengers were travelling in the car. They were teavelling towards B C Road to participate in a wedding reception, it is learnt.
Bantwal town police reached the spot and took steps to clear the traffic.
