Mumbai, Nov 26 (IANS): Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray late on Tuesday staked his claim to form the government in Maharashtra before Governor B.S. Koshyari, party sources said.

The Governor has accepted the claim and announced that Thackeray will be sworn-in as on 5 p.m. on November 28 (Thursday) at Shivaji Park.

A high-level delegation including NCP leader Praful Patel, NCP state chief Jayant Patil, Congress state President Balasaheb Thorat, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, Samajwadi Party state President Abu Asim Azmi and other leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi met the Governor and submitted a letter from Thackeray, support letters of all alliance partners, and other documents, to the Governor.

The development came hours after Thackeray's unanimous election as the MVA leader this evening.

It is not clear whether Deputy CMs from the allies or other ministers would be sworn-in or not along with Thackeray on Thursday, said Thorat.

Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar resign as Maharashtra CM, deputy CM

Mumbai, Nov 26: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, resigned just a day before the floor test ordered by the Supreme Court. 

Fadnavis will tender his resignation to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari by this evening. This comes soon after Ajit Pawar resigned as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra three days after their dramatic swearing-in ceremony on Saturday. 

Addressing media, Fadnavis said, "We kept clarifying that we never promised CM post to Shiv Sena. We were asked to form the government. We refused. Sena made fun of itself by claiming the have figures. None of the parties showed strength. So, the President's Rule was imposed.

"Even an auto runs on three wheels, but if the three wheels work in three directions, then we know what happens. That is what is in store for the Sena+NCP+Congress government. Three completely different parties whose ideologies never matched, tried to create government. Their agenda was to keep the BJP out of power," he said.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court ordered that the Maharashtra floor test be held within 24 hours tomorrow which will be conducted through open ballot and will be telecast live. The court said the floor test will be conducted by the pro tem speaker after the members take oath by 5 pm on November 27.
