Udupi, Nov 27: The concrete road connecting a bridge between Barkur and Bennekudru has developed cracks. These are signs that if neglected, major disasters are expected to happen. The road on the verge of collapse is a potential deathtrap and could claim innocent lives.

Many use this road daily, to reach work and for other purposes. Around 12-15 school buses pick up students and take them to their respective schools via this road. This road which connects Barkur to Bennekudru and then proceeds to Bennekudru Temple through the picturesque Barkur's own Marine Drive and then further connects Sasthan via Pandeshwar has become an inconvenience to all of late.

Even though people have requested government officials to repair the stretch, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Bennekudru Shri Kulamahasthri Temple festival is scheduled in the month of December and more than thousands of devotees from different places will be present. Also as Christmas and New Year are fast approaching, traffic on this stretch will increase.

The government must ensure that the road is repaired to avert potential hazards.
