Mangaluru, Nov 28: Police arrested five persons for carrying lethal weapons and trying to create tension in a religious function at a mosque.

The incident happened at Adkarepadpu near Konaje on Wednesday, November 27.

Sinan, Salman Mohammed, Sameer, Mohammed Ali and Mohammed Siraz are the arrested persons.

The arrested persons are believed to be ganja addicts.

It is said that a religious programme has been going on at Adkarepadpu Masjid since three days. On Tuesday, some miscreants broke some tube lights at the programme venue. On Wednesday, it was decided to trap the miscreants if they came back again. At the same time, four ganja addicts were apprehended by the villagers. When they were about to be handed over to the police, they denied any role in the incident. Konaje panchayat former president Shaukath Ali and member Abdul Khader also insisted not to lodge police complaint against the four.

But subsequently around 12 youngsters came with lethal weapons and fought with the locals. A person named Abubakkar sustained injuries and was admitted into a hospital.

The police arrested the five persons after a complaint was lodged. Two of them are believed to be rowdies. Sameer is a Target Gang member and an accused in Ilyas murder. Other Salman Mohammed was allegedly involved in the Mukkacheri shootout incident.

It is said that the miscreants had come to the venue just to create tension among the locals.
