Kasargod: Toxic Contents - Health Department Bans Sale of Certain Milk Brands

Daijiworld Media Network - Kasargod (SP)

Kasargod, Sep 4: The officials claim that they have found chemicals that have the potential to turn toxic and harm health, in the milk the district received for sale, from other states/districts on the occasion of Onam festival.

Health department's chief food inspector Mohammed Shaffi said that the milk being sold under the brand names, Arokya, Pentmilk and Palika has been banned in the state, because of the above problem. The department found that Formaline, a preservative, the use of which has been regulated, was present in these products, he explained.

In the meantime, the department also found that chemicals that act as neutralizing agents, which camouflage milk's texture and flavour even when it turns sour, in 'Pooja' brand of milk. However, as this is not detrimental to health, this product has not been banned, the health officials informed.

'Arokya' brand of milk is being supplied from Tamilnadu, while the other two are products of Ernakulam district. The department has ordered defaulting concern in Ernakulam to be closed. Excessive Formaline content can give rise to diseases of the digestive system and can result in contamination of blood, they explained.

Thanks Dinesh Dsouza for your comment. Often very few comments when it comes to a issue which causes more harm-we need strict control of food. Thanks to inspector Mohammed Shaffi for performing this noble deed during the month of Ramazan and banning these products in the district. Hopefully this is motivated by desire to serve people, not because someone has not paid to get this check passed without objecting!
