Perdoor Yakshagana Touring Troupe Begins Performances in Metro

The maiden performance of Sri Anantapadmanabha Yakshagana troupe, Perdoor in the metro, was staged at Karnataka Sangh Dr Vishweshwarayya Auditorium, Matunga (West), here on Tuesday September 1 night.  Suvidha Credit Co-operative Society, located at Goregaon (West), here had sponsored this maiden show.
 
Thane Hotel Association vice president Ratnakar G Shetty, initiated the first performance of the maiden metro’s tour of the said Yakshagana troupe, here on Tuesday September 1.
 


Sakinaka – Jerimeri Sri Umamaheshwari temple chief priest S N Udupa graced the occasion. In his message to the gathering, he said that the metro-based Karnataka Sangh and organizers of Yakshagana performances  have provided to the Yakshagana-lovers of the metro, opportunities to  witness Yakshagana plays, despite the opposition from a few individuals for the tour by Sri Anantapadmanabha Yakshagana troupe.  Yakshagana serves as link between the society and traditional culture.  Yakshagana is a heroic art that will be savoured by many generations for many more centuries, he wished.
 
Ratnakar G Shetty said that Yakshagana, which has a glorious history of many centuries, has supported the livelihood of many artistes. It has also enriched the lives of the Mumbaikars through various shows presented across the metro, he observed  Meanwhile, he also urged the Mumbaikars to patronize the touring Yakshagna troupes, since its survival is threatened because of the lure of multiple TV channels that being a varity of programmes to the homes of the people.
 
Veteran entrepreneur Bhaskar S Shetty was the chief guest, while entrepreneur Manjunath N Shetty Bellady, Sannidhi Caterers proprietor Divakar Shetty Salwady, entrepreneur Sudhakar Shetty Heroor, Yakshagana organizer Muloor Sanjeev Kanchan and Perdoor troupe’s Bhagavat Subramanya Dhareshwar were the guests of honour at this programme.
 
Suvidha Credit Co-operative Society handed over its annual financial support to renowned comedy Yakshagana artiste Muroor Ramesh Bhandary at the venue.
 
Touring troupe manager Y Karunakar Shetty Brahmavar, Bhagavat Polya Laxminarayan Shetty, Karunakar Shetty Kukkundoor, Ramesh Shetty Thane and Ravindra Shetty Hosur and others were also present.
 
Suvidha Credit Co-operative Society director and chief manager R Sudhir Shetty Kenchanoor welcomed the gathering. Prakash M Shetty Suratkal proposed vote of thanks.  Karnoor Mohan Rai compered the programme.
 
‘Vanshavallari’, a super hit Yakshagana episode, was staged by Perdoor Yakshagana troupe on the occasion.
