Kundapur, Dec 16: There is extreme public anger over the death of Sujatha, who died due to excessive bleeding during delivery on Sunday, December 16, at the public hospital of the town. The public of Kundapur gheraoed the hospital on Monday, December 16 and protested against the negligence of doctor.

The family of the deceased and the public accused the hospital authorities of not conducting caesarean even though the report of scanning that was done when the deceased was eight months pregnant clearly stated that normal delivery is not possible.

Speaking on the occasion, social worker and BJP president Shankar Ankadakatte said, "The family, which is in dire straits is completely devastated due to the death of the young woman, who was the bread winner of the family."

Radhadas Kumbhashi, president of Women consoling centre said, "The doctors who are supposed to examine all the patients, including women, who visit the public hospital are not reporting to work on time. In addition, they show negligence with the patients. Due to this Sujatha died during delivery."

The family of deceased Sujatha urged the administration to provide compensation and also justice.

Later there was mediation between the protesters and the medical officers of the hospital due to the intervention of the police. Responding to the accusation of the public, medical officer Dr Robert Rebello said that the medical staff of the hospital have not done any dereliction of duty. He also assured the family of the deceased that he will honestly try to get the compensation that is available from the government.

Obstetrician Dr Rajini, who conducted the delivery of the deceased said, "I have done my work honestly. The caesarean section would have had adverse effect on the health of the deceased and that is why I have done normal delivery. The baby is also healthy. However, due to excessive bleeding Sujatha died."

When the protesters asked the medical officer to provide emergency relief to the family, he did not agree. Medical officer Dr Robert Rebello said, "The health department has ordered an inquiry on Dr Rajani, who conducted the delivery. If the department finds any wrong doing, it will take suitable action on her. There is no provision to provide financial compensation."

It is learnt that the family of the deceased are going to file a complaint in this regard with the Kundapur police station. Now the locals have decided to provide quick relief to the family of Sujatha through donation.

It appears to be a case of postpartum haemorrhage for which there are many causes, which includes medical negligence; but in India medical negligence cases are seldom proven because of doctor lobby!

There are some private doctors in kundapur who do unwanted cesarean sections. We must always appreciate doctors who conduct normal delivery. Let there be a proper enquiry before blaming anyone

We should understand Doctors are experts in making decision to carryout normal delivery or to do C section operation. In this case baby is delivered safely shows that the concerned doctor has taken right decision. Now some people are trying to take political advantage of unfortunate incident....

    Are you expert...…….
Let all the doctors consult you before taking decision...
    Come on …..
Allow experts to investigate and report...Without knowing the fact gheraoing the hospital officials and doctors is wrong.
If this trend continues doctor's will stop taking jobs at government hospitals.

In this case I support Doctors.
As a responsible doctor she normal delivery.
This is a case of over bleeding.
Over bleeding not happen in all the cases.

Why that family admitted the women in public hospital?
Because they have faith on that Doctor.
Suddenly this happened & its Govt's hospital where Doctor will get blood to replace.

Birth & death both are in Almighty hands.
    Doctors tryed her best.

This is not a negligence of the doctors or medical staff, it is all about TIMINGS whether patient had gone to access early medical treatment? Or late stage..?
After all.. when comes to the serious disease EVERY Seconds Counts between Life and Death…So go to the medical center when you have some signs of any disease at early stage…
It is always true that.. many times not possible or kind of condition does not permit or impossible to cost out of it to the majority of population

Had the doctor performed Cesarean delivery on the public would have accused her further and told that doctors do operation to get money, that's why our patient died, due to doctor, s greed. We understand the grief, but please stop branding everything as doctor, s negligence.

Excessive bleeding is a medical condition which is rare and cannot be predicted. Patients admitted to large hospitals having unlimited blood supply from blood bank and trained doctors who can handle such heavy bleeding can survive. This cannot be termed as negligence of doctor.
Sometimes such condition can be a result of blood diluting medicines like aspirin, which is given for patients having possible heart disease. One cannot help such patients if the doctor has given such blood diluting medicine as a precaution.
