Mangalore, Sep 12: Bangalore South MP Anant Kumar alleged that the Congress Party had engineered the church attack at Anekal near Bangalore on September 9.
Anant, who stopped over in the city on his way to Udupi on Friday September 11 to take part in the valedictory function of 'Srikrishna Masotsava' there, spoke to the reporters in the city on Friday September 11. "No Sangh Parivar outfits were involved with this church attack. Some vested interests, which are unable to appreciate the rising popularity of the BJP government in the state, have abetted the said attack. The Congress hand was clear in various attacks that took place in the state in the past. It is highly possible that this party was behind this attack too," he surmised.
Anant urged the government to subject this incident to intensive investigation. He further stressed that the law and order situation in the state is under control and that the state government is committed to protect the prayer and worship centres.
In the meanwhile, D V Sadanand Gowda, who spoke to reporters here on Friday, said that the attack on Hebbagodi church was the handiwork of some invisible hands.
R V Deshpande, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president and H D Kumaraswamy, state JDS president, visited the said church on Friday and examined the damage. The KPCC president said that non-arrest of the culprits who vandalized Yadavanahalli church last year, has emboldened the concerned to launch this attack. He blamed the BJP government for failing to stop such acts.
Kumaraswamy pointed out that the incidents of attacks on churches have happened only after the BJP formed government in the state. He blamed the government for intelligence failure and lackadaisical handling of the law and order situation in the state.
State Human Rights Commission chairman S R Nayak, who visited the church and inspected the damage on Friday, sought to disagree with home minister V S Acharya's statement that the incident was minor in nature. While expressing concern about the spread of such acts that occurred initially in coastal Karnataka, he said, he would hold discussions with the chief secretary, director general of police and other prominent officials to take stock of the situation and alert them to the need to act urgently to stop such incidents from recurring.
