Panaji, Sep 17: State tourism minister Fransisco Pacheco is booked by the Goa police for extorting money from a casino in a five star hotel in south district of the state.

The minister along with eleven others are accused of extorting money from a casino at a five star hotel in state’s south district.

The four month long complaint filed by casino management was turned into First information report by the police.

Crime Branch officials today said that the minister was booked for unlawful assembly in the casino without proper entry ticket and threatening the staff with dire consequences and pressurising the dealer to pay Rs 3.69 lakh under the pretext of winning the amount on Roulette.

Superintendent of police (crime branch), Chandrakant Salgaoncar, confirming registration of the case said that the casino management had lodged complaint against the minister and eleven others, which included owner of a reputed restaurant in beach belt of Goa.

Police have filed FIR under section 141, 142, 143, 452, 384, 506 read with 149 of Indian Penal Code against Pacheco, who is a NCP legislator.

Ashok Kumar Rao from Treasures Casino, a company running gaming business in Majorda Beach resort in South Goa, had complained that from May 30 to June 01, the minister along with others committed the offence.

The state police earlier had also received a counter complaint from the minister accusing Casino management of cheating him to the tune of Rs 1.25 crores, which had won in the gaming.

In the police complaint, the minister had stated that he had won Rs 1.53 crore in the game of which Rs 28 lakh were paid back by the casino management.

Goa minister’s tiff with the casino had created controversy in the state with NCP bosses advising him against gambling.
