London, Sep 28 (IANS) A British MP Sunday called for a meeting with Ratan Tata, chairman of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) owners Tata Motors, over the company's decision to close a factory in Britain.

Mike O'Brien, Labour Party MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, said he wanted to speak to Tata chief Ratan Tata himself about what he described as the firm's "bad judgement", the BBC reported.

Jaguar Land Rover Thursday announced plans to close one of its factories in Britain but said there will be no compulsory redundancies.

JLR said it will close a plant at either Solihull or Castle Bromwich in west central England, but will combine production at a site to be decided next year.

JLR also said up to 800 new jobs will be created at its Halewood plant in Liverpool.

Hoewever, O'Brien said: "I want to meet with at least the Jaguar Land Rover people in the UK and hopefully with Ratan Tata.

"I think he needs to come back to the UK and talk to MPs about the concerns in the West Midlands about these decisions.

"I think Jaguar Land Rover have made a bad judgement."

JLR employs about 5,000 workers in Solihull, 2,000 in Castle Bromwich, near Birmingham, and 1,800 at Halewood, in Merseyside.
