Mumbai, Sep 28: ‘Sharada Puja’ was held for the ninth consecutive year at Ek Meera School Hall, Charkop, Kandivali (West), here by Kannadigara Balaga, Charkop.
MLA and Mumbai BJP president Gopal C Shetty was the chief guest on the occasion.
Gopal Shetty, in his address, said that Charkop Kannadigara Balaga has been doing its part in promoting Kannada and its unique culture in the diverse society of the metro.
He said that it’s the duty of every Kannadiga organization to render a hearty welcome to visiting Yakshagana artistes and other artistes from the motherland, Karnataka.
Veteran Yakshagana artiste Ujire Narayan was felicitated on the occasion.
The programme was presided over by Kannadigara Balaga president Bhaskar Sarapady. He said that the building of Kannadigara Balaga Bhavan would be dedicated to the people very soon, and will be a testimony of Kannadiga unity in suburban Kandivali.
A memorandum was presented to the MLA with the request to name the access road to the Bhavan as ‘Dr Shivaram Karanth Road’.
Sarapady also said that the success of organizing variety cultural programmes of Karnataka through ‘Chinnara Bimba’, the children’s troupe, across the metro, conveys the efficiency and commitment of Kannadiga Balaga, Charkop.
Municipal corporator Shailaja Girkar, ‘Chinnara Bimba’ promoter Prakash Bhandary, youth hotelier Gangadar C Poojary, Karunakar Shetty, Karnataka Vishwakarma Association – Mumbai president Nitte Damodar Acharya, Keshav Acharya, M G Bhat, and Jaya C Shetty were the guests of honour.
Sharada Puja was offered by Vidwan Kairabettu Vishwanath Bhat and attended by cultural sub-committee president K T Amin, and secretary Dasu K Suvarna on the occasion.
Yakshanaga play ‘Bhasmasura Mohini’ was staged by Chinnara Bimba as part of the cultural programme.
