Panaji: Delhi Businessman Arrested in Connection with `Registration Plates Racket'

The state police on monday arrested a Delhi-based businessman in the national capital for running a racket connecte with supplying of registration plates.
 
Senior police officials said Ravi Somani, director of Utsav safety systems private limited was arrested at Vasant Vihar locality of Delhi at 5.45 am.
 
“He was brought to Goa. We have also started arresting the local dealers who were supplying these plates,” deputy superintendent of police, Umesh Gaonkar, stated.
 
Police are likely to arrest all the dealers installing these plates in the state. “One dealer is already at Margao police station custody, who was arrested last night,” police said.
 
Margao police, a town police station in Goa, had received complaint from the state transport department that Utsav Safety Systems Private Limited, were illegally installing high security registration plates in the state.
 
Transport minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar talking to reporters recently had said that Utsav was installing these plates by naming them as `All Security Registration Plates’.
 
M/s Shinmit Utsch Private Limited had bagged the tender to install high security registration plates in the state while any other company doing it would amount to illegality, Dhavalikar had said.
 
The company’s website www.utsav.co.in claims itself to be the first company in India to get type approval from automotive research association of India for manufacturing HSRPs.
 
The website also claims that their number plates are installed by celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan on his Rolls Royce and John Abraham on his Gypsy.
 
The company with its head office in Vasant Vihar stated that they have a widespread network of dealers spread across Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbator, Delhi, Dehradun, Goa, Gurgao, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Mumbai, Pune, Puducherry, Ranchi, Siliguri, Surat, Thane and Thrissur.
