Mangalore, Oct 3: As there is no let up in the fury of the rain god, the train and air services were affected on Friday October 2. The meteorological department has predicted the heavy rains to continue for two more days, and the farmers are facing the prospect of losing their standing crops. Karwar receivedd 18 cms of rain, while Dharmastala and Subrahmanya recorded a rainfall of 16 and 14 cms respectively.

Karwar, Udupi and the city received heavy rains at night. Rivers Netravati, Kumaradhara and Payaswini in Dakshina Kannada district, are overflowing. Collapse of a foot-bridge in Beltangady, landslide of hillocks at Venur and Laila, inundation of low-lying areas like Nattibail in Puttur, collapse of a house at Bajpe Kolambe are some of the incidents that have been reported.

The flight to the local airport from Muscat did not arrive on Friday. The passengers were taken to Kozhikode, from were they left for Muscat. The arrival of the flight from Kozhikode got delayed. The train services on Konkan Railway Line have been severely affected. Train traffic in Wadi-Mantralaya route and Kurnool-Secunderabad too has been affected because of heavy rains. The Matsyagandha Express that departed from Mumbai arrived here on Friday morning, but the train to Mumbai in the afternoon, was cancelled.  Likewise, the train expected to arrive in the city from Mumbai on Saturday morning has been cancelled. The Verna passenger train from the city returned after travelling only upto Kumta. The Lokamanya Tilak - Tiruvanantapuram Netravati Express train service that should have arrived today, to start its return journey on Sunday, has been cancelled.

The Ernakulam-Nizamuddin Express was diverted via Shoranur, Palghat, Erode, Jolarpettai, Tirupati and Vijayawada, which is a circuitous route. The Kochuveli-Dehradun Express has also been diverted on the said route.  The routes of several other trains have also been changed because of rains.  A Kingfisher flight that was to land in Goa arrived in the city, as it could not land there. Because of inclement weather, a flight could not land in Kozhikode. It instead, landed in Kochi. As it went back to Kozhikode from there and then came here, the Dubai flight from the city was delayed by five hours.

Hosmutt Bridge near Subrahmanya got inundated for a few hours on Friday. Kumaradhara Bridge too is facing the prospect of going under water, if the rains continue to lash. Paddy crops have been destroyed at various places of the twin-districts and the losses will rise further, if the water level does not recede in a day or two. The fishermen have been asked not to venture out for fishing, as the sea can turn turbulent, following torrential rains in the coast.

Karwar has been badly affected. Many are rendered homeless. In one place there has been a big landslide under which 6 houses have been buried with about 22 people. I visited the spot. After 26 hours of the incident only two bodies have been found. The method used for locating the bodies has been primitive. Everything is done manually. If modern sensing equipment was used immediately after the incident some lives could have been saved. I have visited other areas too. The crisis management was very poor and the reliefwork was not at all to be found. The people had to fend for themselves. In almost all the places people were at the mercy of some well wishers as they found themselves without food and shelter. You only find a few NOGs working in some places. It gives a feeling that Karwar has been neglected by those who should have done their duty.

THIS IS A WARNING FROM NATURE REGARDING GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE. OUR NEW GENERATION WILL BE EFFECTED FULLY. HUMANBEINGS LIFE STYLE IS CHANGED, WANT TO MIGRATE CITY/TOWN, SELLING CULTIVATING FERTILE LAND TO BUILDERS FOR FLATS-SHOPING MALLS. BACKFILLING CANALS-OPEN WELLS-PONDS-WATER RESERVIORS, DESTROYING FORESTS WILD ANIMALS ARE MIGRATING TO CITY/TOWN FOR DAILY FOOD/PREY. GLACIER / ANTARTICA IS MELTING, SEA WATER LEVEL IS INCREASING.

MY DEAR FRIENDS, THIS IS A WAKE-UP CALL. BUT REMEBER THAT RAINFALL IS SAME LIKE BEFORE, BUT DUE TO LACK OF FORESTS-FERTILE LAND WATER IS FLOWING TO CITY-TOWN AREA & DAMAGING VALUABLE ASSETS. WE ARE FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. BURING LOTS OF FUEL & RELEASING LOTS OF CARBON TO THE ENVIRONMENT. USING AC.S, RUNNING CARS, BURNING GASES. SO ALL THIS POLUTION GO WHERE? ONLY TO OUR VALUABLE ENVIRONMENT.

This is the punishment God inflicts for damaging his places of worship and attacking his sons and daughters. God said vengence is mine that is why Christians never take the law in their hands even when provoked or attacked because they belive in the power of the Almighty God and Father and his just punishment.
