Mumbai, Oct 5: Dolphy D’Souza, a resident of Orlem, Malad (West), will contest the forthcoming legislative assembly elections from his constituency number 162.
Dolphy is son of Valerian and Pauline D’Souza couple, native of Neermarga in Mangalore. He is both commerce and law graduate and serving as president of Mumbai Catholic Sabha and vice-president of All India Catholic Union.
Dolphy has spearheaded the protest against the unjust Bandra Pereirawadi demolition, mobilized over 50,000 citizens from across the metro and all over Maharashtra, for the agitation against SEZ in Gorai, in his constituency of Malad – Orlem, mobilized the entire city to form a human chain across metro, after 26/11 terrorists Mumbai attack, mobilized over 90,000 citizens of all communities for a rally of communal harmony and peace ‘Sadbhawana Melawa’ at Shivaji Park in Nov 15 2008.
He is a human resources consultant, human rights and social activist. He is a founder member of Citizens Initiative for Peace (CIP), a forum of over 100 NGOs, convener of Jaago Re Nagrik Manch, former chairman of Mumbai University (MU) students Council, former senate member of MU, former national vice-president of All India Catholic Union and board member of Hotline India (a Human Rights NGO) among others.
