Gadag: Flood Relief - CM orders officials’ ‘arrest’, DC Transfered

GADAG, Oct 19 (The Hindu): Faced with a volley of complaints against irregularities in fixing and disbursement of compensation to house damages and unsatisfactory clarification by officials, an infuriated Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa “ordered” the police to take into custody government officers on Sunday.

The order led to confusion and commotion for few minutes and the Chief Minister then skipped the issue. The incident occurred at Hole Mannur village in Rona Taluk of Gadag district, where Yeddyurappa visited the damaged houses.

The Chief Minister faced a deluge of complaints about meagre amount being paid as compensation and favouritism. An enraged Yeddyurappa sought an explanation from Deputy Commissioner N.V. Prasad and other officials. However, the explanation given by them did not satisfy him and he called for the Superintendent of Police ordering him to take the officials into custody, which led to confusion. After few minutes normality returned and the Chief Minister went ahead with visiting houses. Later, speaking to press persons he evaded a direct reply to the query on his “order”. He said that action could not be taken against officials without verifying documents.

Gadag DC transferred

GADAG: After Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa faced a deluge of complaints regarding discrepancies in fixing and disbursement of compensation in flood-affected villages of Gadag on Sunday, the State Government ordered transfer of Deputy Commissioner N.V. Prasad.

Sources told that Chief Executive Officer of Dharwad Zilla Panchayat C. Shikha had been posted as Deputy Commissioner of Gadag. The development came late on Sunday evening after the Chief Minister wound up his tour of the affected villages. — Staff Correspondent

I admire Mr. Raj’s intelligence. According to him, if Mr. X is a big thief there nothing wrong in Mr. Y robbing a smaller amount. “Mr. Raj Mangalore, you have all the qualities of making it big in Indian politics. Keep it up.”

The Ministers and Govt Officials went around collecting Relief Funds for the Flood Victims. The Public Generously donated. Thereafter the Govt is deciding to increase taxes to meet the shortage of funds for Flood Relief. If we go through the media News we observe that BJP Govt Spent a Year Back Rs. 1 Crore for 3 hours Programme for their success in election.

Also there is a huge back log of Taxes to be collected from Errant Defaulters which could be running in Crores of rupees. Instead of Burdening the Honest and Innocent people by introducing new or increasing existing taxes it is time that the arrears are collected from Defaulters who live on Unpaid Tax amount and use it for Relief Purpose.

There are also cases of corrupted Govt Officials who have accumulated wealth through illegal means. It is time that their properties are confiscated and the income generated out of it to be used for the Flood Relief.
