Gadag: Flood Relief - CM orders officials’ ‘arrest’, DC Transfered
GADAG, Oct 19 (The Hindu): Faced with a volley of complaints against irregularities in fixing and disbursement of compensation to house damages and unsatisfactory clarification by officials, an infuriated Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa “ordered” the police to take into custody government officers on Sunday.
The order led to confusion and commotion for few minutes and the Chief Minister then skipped the issue. The incident occurred at Hole Mannur village in Rona Taluk of Gadag district, where Yeddyurappa visited the damaged houses.
The Chief Minister faced a deluge of complaints about meagre amount being paid as compensation and favouritism. An enraged Yeddyurappa sought an explanation from Deputy Commissioner N.V. Prasad and other officials. However, the explanation given by them did not satisfy him and he called for the Superintendent of Police ordering him to take the officials into custody, which led to confusion. After few minutes normality returned and the Chief Minister went ahead with visiting houses. Later, speaking to press persons he evaded a direct reply to the query on his “order”. He said that action could not be taken against officials without verifying documents.
