New Zealand Mangalorean Launched at a Memorable Event

by Reena Fernandes - Media Release

Auckland, Nov 2: NZ Mangalorean’s inaugural event on Friday October 30 was an evening to remember by all those who attended.

The programme began with an opening prayer/blessing by Fr Ephraim, which was followed by an inaugural speech by Basil Fernandes, the president of NZ Mangalorean Inc. The song and dance performances by talented stars entertained one and all throughout the evening.

For the mix and mingle session, there were many fun-filled games which was enthusiastically participated by the young and the old. There was pot luck dinner which highlighted the fusion of Kiwi and Mangalorean tradition and also strongly emphasized a sense of community spirit ('Ek Kutaamb').

The non-stop ‘Baila/Masala’ session brought everyone on the floor. It was nice to see people from all communities enjoying the occasion. Fr Sebastian said the grace before the sumptuous dinner which was enjoyed by everyone.  The evening ended with a vote of thanks by the vice-president.

About NZ Mangalorean

NZ Mangalorean Inc. was formed in September 2009 by an enthusiastic group of Mangaloreans settled in the Auckland area to bring a sense of community to those originally hailing from Mangalore, with the  aim to grow as a closely united family. (Ek Kutaamb).

The management team consists of 15 members comprising of President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, Events Coordinator, Cultural Advisor, and Web Coordinator and a few co-opted members. All members serve in a voluntary capacity and are passionate about the organisation.

NZ Mangalorean Inc. endeavours to form a strong link for fellow Mangaloreans who have a keen sense of responsibility of developing and spreading our Mangalorean culture. With the support and encouragement they receive from the Mangaloreans' in New Zealand, NZ Mangalorean Inc. hopes to continue to organise social, cultural and sports activities.

Congratulations on launching of NZ Mangalorean, Inc. by Auckland Mangalorean’s. With Pot Luck spread, mix n mingle session, games, Baila/Masala jam session and participation by one and all there is no doubt that this is a close knit “Ek Kutaambh”. Although from the photos it does not seem to be a large crowd it is heartening to see everyone having a ball. With the success of the inaugural event I am sure the word must have spread in Auckland. Wish you all the best and even greater success in future. Keep up the good work.

It's great to see our New Zealand Mangloreans joining hands and launching a association below Down Under Auckland. The Associations in other parts of the world like Australia(Victoria Melbourne),Middle East etc are all very well run and throughly organised. Auckland and New Zealand itself being smaller , the association will surely have a huge following and most of the local Mangloreans would be proud to be associated with it.We are also wish that apart from routine meets during the 3 major Festivals this association will have a New Zeal and organise social and cultural activities which will benefit the local community especially the youngsters and make them feel at HOME although quite away from it .All the very best !
