Panaji, Feb 25: Under a scheme launched by the Union ministry of health and family welfare March 1 onwards pre-primary and primary school students, up to the age of 9, will be given iron and folic acid supplements.
This scheme will greatly help prevent anaemia in children. In the first phase, the programme will be conducted in Mapusa, Aldona, Porvorim, Chimbel, Panaji, Betki, Corlim and Cortalim. During the 2018-19 academic year, 2.7 lakh students were provided iron and folic acid supplements.
As per state government notification to schools “From March 1 onwards, 1ml Syp iron and folic acid will be administered bi-weekly to those between 6 to 59 months and one pink junior iron and folic acid tablet will be administered once a week to those is the age group of 5 to 9 years.”
