Mumbai, Nov 4: A delegation of BJP- Shiv Sena leaders led by leader of the BJP in the Legislative Assembly Eknath Khadse and Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai on Wednesday November 4 met Governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan, here to demand imposition of President’s rule in the state, on grounds of the alleged failure of the Congress-NCP front, to form a government, even after 14 days of declaration of results.
The delegation informed the Governor that the caretaker government of CM Ashok Chavan should not be allowed to function for an indefinite period. The delegation further pointed out that a large number of issues such as malnutrition in tribal areas, declaration of fair price to the agricultural produce, deterioration of law and order in the state were awaiting urgent attention from the government. The members demanded that the governor should recommend imposition of President’s rule, if the Congress - NCP fails, to form a government within next 24 hours.
The Governor told the delegation that he is already sized-up the problem and anxious to have an elected government installed as early as possible. He told the delegation that he had reminded CM Ashok Chavan and NCP leaders Chhagan Bhujbal and R R Patil, on Tuesday November 3, that since the electorate of Maharashtra had given them a fresh mandate, it was their responsibility to respect the mandate and form a government without any further delay.
Pandurang Fundkar, Dr Neelam Gorhe and legislators of BJP and Shiv Sena were present on the occasion.
