Udupi, Nov 6: Reportedly, a person named Manjunath alias Manju (26) chased Nagaveni (23), a local resident, and slashed her neck with two blades near the fly over opposite municipal office here, shouting as to how she can decide to love someone else, after being in love with him. As she escaped from him and reached a coin box near Alankar Talkies and was making a call, he reached there, held her by her hair and again hit her neck with the blades, upon which she collapsed to the ground and breathed her last.

It is gathered that Nagaveni was a resident of Hoovina Hadagali in Bellary district, and Manju belongs to Hanagal taluk in Haveri district.  Nagaveni stayed with her parents at Beedinagudde here. Manju has been working as labourer since the last four years.

The accused was arrested and a case was registered in the town police station here.
