Kundapur, Mar 5: The traffic police station of the town is on the verge of collapsing as the building housing it is completely dilapidated. The wooden logs of the roof are falling every now and then. Tiles are broken at many places. Recently a ceiling fan fell down. The mud plaster of the wall is falling every day.

The traffic policemen, who work under harsh conditions of summer and rainy seasons, do not have a well-maintained police station where they can work without any fear of the roof or the building collapsing.

This traffic police station, which was located near the government bus stand in the town, was shifted to the present building, which was the earlier Kundapur police station, in 2010. The then minister Dr V S Acharya had inaugurated this building. The demand was there for a well-equipped building right from that time. But the process of earmarking this 19 cents land for traffic police station is still under process, due to which, the demand for a new building is still under the pipeline.

It is said that if the process of getting this land reserved for the traffic police department permanently is over, then the building will be constructed in no time. But unfortunately the process is going at snail's pace. Though the building is being made slightly strong through some patch works, it will not guarantee the structure to be safe, especially during heaving breeze and rain during the rainy season.

The washroom of the building is not accessible as huge tunnels are dug by rodents. During the rainy season, the water directly enters the pit of the washroom. The whole place stinks like hell.

It is said that 19 cents of space is not enough for a traffic police station as they have to park the vehicles that are seized. In addition to the building woes, there is an acute shortage of staff in the police station. Total posts in this police station are 41. Now 11 positions are lying vacant.

The police station lacks the space for parking of seized vehicles. Now they are parked outside the police station and their safety is not guaranteed. It is high time that concerned authorities have to look into the issues faced by the traffic police station of the town and take corrective action.
