Udupi, Mar 12: Local MLA, K Raghupati Bhat, who has been in the forefront of action to see that construction activity in the district does not suffer on account of shortage of sand, has given pleasant news to the people of the district.

Bhat said that the process of passing a resolution which was pending to be passed by the Coastal Regulatory Zone committee of Karnataka State ESM that was needed to extract sand from the blocks in the district, has been put through by the secretary. He said that a seven-member committee headed by the district deputy commissioner has to approve this decision and then pave way for the distribution of sand to 171 licence holders through sand distribution app.

He further said that instructions have been given to begin to clear sand blocks as per the decision taken by the deputy commissioner earlier. He therefore said he expects the sand extraction in the district to begin in a week.
