Hubballi: POGO movement to drive four lac Kannadigas out of Goa?

Daijiworld Media Network - Hubballi (MS)

Hubballi, Mar 13: Time and the anti-Kannadiga policy of the Goa government has reportedly caused difficulties for people of Karnataka origin living in Goa.

Now, the Kannadigas are shaken by the POGO (Person Of Goa Origin) movement that is formed by the Goan government to protect the interests of native Goans. The people of Karnataka feel that Goa is not safe for them anymore.

For the past six months, Kannadigas who have left their state and are living in Goa from four to six decades, the policy of the government of Goa has become a shocker.

Representational Image

Former convener of AAP party of Goa Manoj Parab has started POGO movement and declared the group as 'Revolutionary Goans' fighting for the life of native Goans. They have termed this move as the fight for the liberation of Goa.

POGO movement is pressurizing the Goan government in lines of the article 370/1 which had given special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. They are saying that only those who are living in Goa before 1961 are the native Goans. All others should be declared as migrants. All the government jobs should be reserved for native Goans. Migrants should not be permitted to buy property or vehicles in Goa and also should not be given a voter's identity card.

The main demand of POGO is that the migrants should be considered as tourists and should not be allowed to stay in Goa for more than six months.

The present population of Goa is 13.60 lac. Out of this 40% are migrants. Kannadigas constitute four lac in numbers among the migrant population. Many have taken part in the Goa liberation fight also. There are many from Karnataka who has been employed in Marmagoa port trust and other industries in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Their children have become Goans and have not accustomed to the tradition of Karnataka. Now they are scared that they will be asked to leave Goa forever.

Govind Lamani, gram panchayat member of Sankola says, "My parents came to Goa three decades ago. Their contribution to the development of Goa is immense. Now some people are fighting against us for their selfishness. They are conducting atrocities on us and are planning to send us out of Goa by force. We have given a complaint against them to the police. Now we are living under police protection."

    Hello.

main issue is not people coming here staying.

but when we talk of taking away our rights is that right?

if we go to thier place will be we allowed to buy lands there n build houses?

but lets shift to more important issue. how are people coming from Karnataka being issued an election card in goa?
they vote here and also go back to Karnataka n vote that..is this Constitutionally correct?

can we come to Karnataka n get voting card n vote there !! then how are they allowed to do that.

Vote here vote there.. steal people identity. change thier Surname like they are ashamed of thier surnamed from thier state but again go back to thier state n vote again seriously how is that so good?

get facts correct get the things clear and post... drive 4 lacks illegally people who have dual voting sure.. government should take action on same. why give them all the services when we people lack the basic needs which are to be provided by our government to us goans.

If so, then Goan people should not go and buy land in Mumbai,Pune,Bangalore or even outside India. Even they are migrants or ghati in other states..why dont you'll call your self ghati when you reside outside Goa?? Sick mentality.. remember we all are Indians and all are humans

    Hi.

main issue is about migrants having dual voting cards here in goa.
so can u tell me if i come to karnataka n get my self voting card will i be allowed?
and i mean like vote in Karnataka and also vote in goa. and also getting all facilities in both states is that constitutional?

if so i would like to get such benefits sure i would like to avail same.

Pluralism is a constitutional virtue. Goa is a small state. If Goans do not defend their culture against larger communities like Hindustanis, Marathis, Kannadigas, Telugus etc their culture will be wiped out. It is getting harder to find traditional cuisine in many places in India. Do people want to eat Punjabi food from Kashmir to Kanyakumari?

It would not be right to say that just banglore is developed in Karnataka
There are other places like hubli ,Belgaum,Mysore, Manglore,Davangere etc
And about migrants .....there are migrants from Maharashtra and other states as well in goa ..... This movement is a crazy idea by politicians .
If so called migrants from Karnataka and Maharashtra leave goa ..... Goa state will be devastated as alot of people from Karnataka and Maharashtra work in goa in restraunts and a lot of other places .
And most of these migrants leave goa , then who will do the job of those who have been living in goa ?
Then it will be a pain for all the goans and bussiness owners .
This is not for migrants just from Karnataka or Maharashtra , even for the people from Bihar and other smaller towns and villages .....
Why don't you point out at nepaly labours ,labours from Mizoram,Assam ?
Let us not be goans , kannadigas ,maharashtrans .....better be Indians.
Everyone in this country is a Hindu, muslim,Christian, Kannadiga, Maharashtra, bihari ,Tamilian ....but not an Indian .
This is a shamefull act of differentiation.

States like Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkand, and UP are very backward in terms of development. Residents of these states migrate to other states and become a pain. I am naming Karnataka also because only Bangalore is developed in the entire state. Otherwise, for all practical purposes it is a backward state with the worst possible leaders. No development or employment, high levels of corruption and incompetence, and a very low quality of life.

On the other hand, people of GOA migrated to other states should also be thrown out.. If Every state follow such policy, then we will be again divided into different states like previous small kingdoms...Nation will be apart and different states will fight amongst each other...

Such an idea of throwing migrants out of GOA is an idiotic example, which shows selfishness, narrow minded ness.....

    If they succeed...
All susegaad (relaxed mentality) people of Goan origin will come back from Mumbai, Uk, Gulf etc ; will migrate back to Goa and do all those jobs which they didnot wanted to do in their own place but had no hesitation to do outside their state, like maid, janitor, driver, technician etc. They will give up their stance that they can do only white collar jobs in Goa, they will be ready to work at any time of the day,not limiting to day shift only, All the best , now you people will be like other Indians in work culture and attitude; remember migrants came to Goa due to opportunities created by Goans due to above attitude.
