Bahrain, Nov 23: The annual day of Karnataka Social Club (KSC) here, which was held through a function organized on Thursday November 19, at the Delmon Hotel, Poolside here, happened to be sober function held in family atmosphere.  It was well-attended.

The Club was founded in the year 1956 with an enthusiastic group of Mangaloreans, who felt the need to have a recreation club for the fellow Mangaloreans and their children, and 50 years later, the Club still stands tall and strong, thanks to the efforts of the committees, which passed on the baton of a family atmosphere. The Karnataka Social Club now is famously known as the ‘Family Club’.

The chief guest for this event was a dynamic social worker, and the Action Committee head of the Migrant Workers Protection Society, Marietta Dias, who in her speech, highlighted the dilemma of the less fortunate workers in foreign countries. A well said thought that jolted the audience and touched their feelings was, ‘remember the shroud has no pockets,’ in the sense that the worldly things we so much hanker for, are left behind and hence, one should be charitable to the needs of the others.

Her speech was followed by the president’s address, in which, tributes were paid to the creators of the Club and the successive leaders. The general secretary, who proposed vote of thanks, expressed gratefulness to the sponsors and patrons, who have contributed generously, and also to the Ladies Wing, for their unstinted support throughout.  After the cake-cutting ceremony, the Aryan Fame band belted out numbers which warmed the crowd, who were fanned by the cool breeze blowing in, to join the celebrations.

To top it all, ‘Desi Girl’, a competition of traditional costumes, was held, in which approximately 20 contestants donning the local attires of Kodagu, Gujarat, Kashmir, Kerala, Orissa, Punjab and the colourful saris, took part. The winner was Gracy Pais, closely followed by Rochelle Dante in the second spot.

The members danced to the music till the wee hours the next day. The children of the Club members gave the glimpse of their tremendous talents, by presenting some exquisite dances to the tune of the dancing numbers.
