Mangalore, Nov 23: “The term ‘love Jehad’ was used by a newspaper in Kerala and after that the word became popular”, said Dr D V Guruprasad, director general of police (DGP), Crime Investigating Department (CID), on Monday November 23.
Speaking to reporters, he said that they are investigating the missing person cases in the state.
“There are a thousand cases of missing people registered over a long period and some of them have been identified while the rest have not been identified. So, we have requested time from the high court to reply and submit a report in this regard”, said Dr Guruprasad.
In response to a query related to love Jehad, the DGP expressed dismay over the usage of the term and questioned the media about its meaning and said, “Let me know what it is and it will help in my investigation”.
“We are investigating the matter of missing cases with the human trafficking angle and there were some instances of such persons being used for begging and prostitution also. So, we have requested the state government to establish a wing of the CID—an anti-human trafficking cell—to prevent such incidents”, added Dr Guruprasad.
“The CoD has been renamed the Crime Investigating Department (CID) and CoD is under the CID”, he said, adding that it is to deal easily with interstate affairs when other states have CID.
“The CID has an anti-narcotic cell which deals with drugs-related cases and the state crime and intelligence bureau. There is a proposal to form a regional crime and intelligence bureau in the western range”, added Dr Guruprasad.
Gopal B Hosur, inspector general of police (western range), was also present.
